Fabless semiconductor company Fast-Chip has selected Avant!'s Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC tools for its PolicyEdge design, a complex 100-million-transistor services processor.

Fast-Chip leveraged Avant!'s floor planning, optimisation, place and route, parasitic extraction and custom layout editing features for the PolicyEdge design.

"We use a best-of-breed approach when selecting tools for design and verification", said Gregg Cook, president and CEO of Fast-Chip.

"We chose Avant!'s SinglePass-SoC flow as part of our tool framework because their technology and support are integral to the overall success of our advanced, hierarchical designs.

Avant!'s solution helped us successfully develop and ship our PolicyEdge chip to first customers in September 2001, making Fast-Chip the world's first company delivering an 10 gigabit capable, packet processor".

Cook continued, "We will be using Avant! tools again for our upcoming 0.13-micron projects, to meet our demanding timing-closure requirements".

"We are pleased that Fast-Chip has chosen tools from our SinglePass-SoC solution for their current and future generation SoC designs", said Dr Paul Lo, president of Avant! Corporation.

"Their commitment to our technology is a direct result of the advanced tools produced by our research and development investment and our excellent support for customers".
