Avant! joins the TI 90nm design flow

Texas Instruments has selected Avant!'s Star-RCXT for sign-off parasitic extraction of high-performance, ultra-deep-submicron (90nm) ASIC designs.
Star-RCXT parasitic extraction is a key component of TI's Pyramid flow and of Avant!'s Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC solution.
Star-RCXT provides sign-off accuracy even for the latest fabrication effects such as copper interconnect dishing and non-ideal shapes.
"We use Star-RCXT extraction for 90nm process technology in our Pyramid production flow", said Steve Sutton, vice-president ASIC, at Texas Instruments.
"With complete support of 90nm process effects, Star-RCXT is in the best position to address TI's accuracy, capacity, and performance demands for full-chip cell-level extraction.
Also, Star-RCXT is used for high-accuracy transistor-level extraction of TI's library cells at 90nm and below technologies".
Star-RCXT now handles the most demanding technology issues.
Inductance extraction for multi-million-gate SoC designs with accurate modelling of single or multiple current-return paths is one such capability.
Accurate process models (TLU+) via a unified process-characterisation interface for Apollo-II and Astro place and route is another.
Star-RCXT continues as the industry's fastest and most comprehensive device-level extraction engine by using Avant!'s proprietary ScanBand processing technology that extracts a 5-million-gate design on a single CPU or a 25-million-gate design on multiple CPUs overnight.
"We are honored that Texas Instruments selected Star-RCXT as their standard extraction tool", said Dr Paul Lo, president of Avant! Corporation.
"Texas Instruments choice of Star-RCXT for their highly advanced processes affirms our strategic focus on research and development to continually extend our market-leading extraction capabilities.
We partner with leading-edge foundries and with integrated device manufacturers to ensure that Star-RCXT leads in capability for UDSM technologies such as TI's 90nm process".
Star-RCXT is available for Sun Solaris, HP-UX workstations, and Linux RedHat system.
It integrates through standard interfaces, including Milkyway, GDSII, LEF/DEF, DSPF, SPEF, and Star-Hspice formats.
