LCR meter sheds light on mystery passives
With the latest LCR meter from AVO International, the modern trend for electronic components to carry no markings to identify their function is no longer a problem for service and test engineers.
With the latest B131 LCR meter from test instrument expert, AVO International, the modern trend for electronic components to carry no markings to identify their function is no longer a problem for service and test engineers.
AVO's versatile and compact instrument automatically determines whether the device under test is a resistor, capacitor or inductor, and then rapidly and accurately displays its value.
If the device shows a combination of characteristics - inductance and resistance, for example - then both values are displayed.
Q factors for inductors, and D values for capacitors can also be measured quickly and accurately.
The B131 LCR meter offers resistance ranges from 10ohm to 10Mohm, capacitance ranges from 1000pF to 10,000uF and inductance ranges from 1mH to 10,000H.
User selectable test frequencies of 120Hz and 1kHz are offered, and the results are shown on a large high-contrast four-digit liquid crystal display panel.
This panel also incorporates a secondary display for two-component measurements.
In addition to its applications in servicing and testing, the B131 meter also provides features which make it an invaluable aid in a production environment.
In tolerance mode, for example, users select a component value, and a tolerance of 1, 5 or 10%.
Instant audible confirmation is then provided to indicate whether components fall within the chosen tolerance range, making the meter ideal for goods inward and similar go/no-go testing.
AVO's B131 LCR meter can also be used in recording mode, where it stores the highest and lowest values of a series of component measurements, and also computes the average value.
This robust and cost-effective instrument is powered from a standard 9V battery, allowing it to be used virtually anywhere, and is supplied complete with rubber holster and test leads with clips.
Tweezers for easy handling of surface-mount components are available as an optional extra.
