Impedance tester checks backup battery life
Fast, easy and reliable condition testing for lead-acid and NiCad secondary batteries with capacities of up to 7000Ah is offered by the new BITE 2P battery impedance tester.
Fast, easy and reliable condition testing for lead-acid and NiCad secondary batteries with capacities of up to 7000Ah is offered by the new BITE 2P battery impedance tester from test equipment expert, Megger.
The new tester greatly reduces the need for inconvenient and time-consuming discharge tests, and also eliminates unnecessary stress on the battery, thus helping to prolong its life.
Housed in a robust, compact carrying case, complete with all essential accessories, the BITE 2P tester allows the condition of individual cells to be determined in under 15 seconds.
Tests may be performed while the battery continues to supply the load, which saves valuable time, and avoids power interruptions, and user-programmable pass/warning/fail indications instantly alert the operator to potential problems.
Full data for up to 2000 sets of readings are stored, and can be printed on the spot using the instrument's internal printer.
Alternatively, the data can be downloaded to a PC for detailed analysis, and for use in compiling ongoing battery condition records as an aid to effective maintenance.
Ideally suited for monitoring the condition of batteries used in substations, UPS systems, telecommunication installations, railway signalling and similar applications, Megger's new BITE 2 testers work by applying an AC test current to the battery while it is on line, and then measuring the total current and the voltage drop for each cell.
These measurements allow the instrument to calculate accurate values for the impedances of the cells.
The cell's DC voltage and the interconnection (strap) resistance are also measured, giving a complete set of results which, between them, provide an accurate indication of the battery's condition.
Unlike conventional tests, which involve repeated charge/discharge cycles, this method of testing is fast, and does not stress the battery.
