Two new compact and instruments from Megger offer a comprehensive and economical solution for monitoring and troubleshooting any voice telecommunication network.

By using the QualiFyr BVA70 voice network analyser and the TDR500 time-domain reflectometer telecommunication companies and users of private networks can make big savings on system installation and maintenance.

The QualiFyr BVA70 voice network analyser allows an extensive range of checks to be made on transmission quality, while the TDR500 time-domain reflectometer makes it easy to find the physical locations of cable faults, as well as bridge taps and loading coils.

Both instruments are compact, battery-powered and ruggedised, making them ideal for on-site use, even in the most demanding locations.

The QualiFyr BVA70 is a purpose-designed multifunction hand-held tester with facilities for measuring line voltage, DC loop current, signal level and signal frequency.

All of these measurements are performed simultaneously, greatly reducing the time needed for carrying out routine tests.

In addition, the BVA70 allows the measurement of loop resistance for both powered and unpowered loops, and it incorporates a 1004Hz tone generator which is an invaluable aid to the identification of wire pairs in multi-line cables.

Line bridging and line terminating options, simulating on-hook and off-hook conditions, are also provided, together with a digit mode, which uses Megger's DigitGrabber technology to capture and display any digit string of up to 32 characters.

The functionality of the BVA70 is perfectly complemented by that of the Megger TDR500 time-domain reflectometer.

This easy-to-use unit is operated by just six keys, and can locate line discontinuities at ranges from 30m to 3km.

It is suitable for use with all common types of telecommunication cables having velocity factors from 0.30 to 0.99, and it continuously shows both distance and velocity factor on a high-legibility integral liquid crystal display.
