The new TDR2000/2 range of cable fault locators from Megger is designed to provide dependable and straightforward detection for even the most elusive cable faults, at ranges up to 16km.
Operating on the proven principle of time-domain reflectometry, these new portable instruments feature large LCD screens (colour or monochrome, depending on model), dual-channel operation to allow easy comparison of live traces, or of traces stored in memory.
Their maximum resolution of just 0.1m allows faults of all types to be accurately pinpointed.
Developed from the highly successful TDR2000 product family, the new Megger cable fault locators offer an extensive range of extra functions.
These include an intermittent fault mode, which captures and displays transient events for easy analysis; and automatic event location which, at the press of a button, places the display cursor at the furthest likely event, while automatically setting the instrument's range and gain.
Also new is the choice of single- and dual-cursor modes, which allows distance measurements to be made from the start of the cable, the end of the cable, or between events.
Control over output pulse amplitude, enhancements to the display's zoom facility, and a new graphical help system are further features which make instruments in Megger's TDR2000/2 range the most versatile and easy to use on the market.
Megger's new cable analysers are available in three versions.
The TDR2000/2 has a monochrome display, and is designed for operation from inexpensive, readily available dry batteries.
The TDR2000/2RM is similar, but incorporates a rechargeable battery pack, while the TDR2000/2R has rechargeable batteries and a colour display.
A colour display dramatically simplifies dual trace measurements by using a different colour on each trace.
All models have an internal memory which can store up to 15 traces for later examination, or for downloading to a PC.
Using Megger's TraceMaster software, which is supplied with all TDR2000 instruments, and provides comprehensive facilities for archiving and analysing data, traces can also be uploaded from the PC to the instrument, should it be necessary to make a comparison between old test results and new data.
