Robust ceramics boost capacitance

Driven by demands for more robust and more reliable components, AVX has extended the capacitance ranges of its Flexiterm family.

Driven by demands for more robust and more reliable components, AVX has extended the capacitance ranges of its Flexiterm family This recently introduced, soft termination system delivers enhanced mechanical strength and temperature cycling performance for ceramic capacitors in X7R dielectric

Flexiterm enables superior mechanical and thermomechanical performance in applications subject to high degrees of board flexure.

New Flexiterm X7R values include a 1uF, 10V, 0805 chip sized part and a 0.47uF, 50V component, samples of which are immediately available.

Enhancing the capabilities of a standard MLCC, Flexiterm has been developed to guard against crack failures under extreme environmental conditions.

Using base metal electrode (BME) technology, flexible copper terminations are coated with a conductive polymer and subsequently plated with nickel and tin.

The system guarantees a minimum damage-free flexure of 5mm, achieving 3000 temperature cycles compared with an industry standard of 1000.

As a further benefit, the component will fail open circuit beyond 5mm.

Flexiterm is suitable for high flexure stress circuit boards, variable temperature applications and automotive applications. Request a free brochure from AVX ...
