AVX unveils transient voltage suppressor

An AVX product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Nov 17, 2008

AVX Corporation has developed a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) that combines advanced stacked capacitors and multilayer varistors to provide superior transient voltage protection.

Designated Capguard, the TVS provides broadband off-state EMI filtering, as well as bi-directional transient clamping in a small, light package that significantly increases printed circuit board (PCB) space.

Scott Harris, AVX product manager, says: 'The Capguard expands and combines both of these technologies into a small and lightweight TVS solution with vital elements for avionic and military applications.' AVX Capguard can be produced using transient voltage suppressors with energy ratings of 1.2 to 1.5J and working voltages of 18V, 26V, 30V and 48V DC.

These working voltage values correspond to clamping voltages of 42V, 60V, 67V and 100V.

Parallel capacitance values can range from 10nF to 33nF.

The operating temperature range is -55 to 125C.

In addition to aviation and military, the Capguard is suitable for applications including navigation, communication, automotive, off-highway and inverters.

Parts are available in volume with a typical lead time of nine weeks.
