An AWS Electronics product story

Contract electronics manufacturer AWS Electronics has begun a series of investments in its plant that reflect its confidence in future growth, bucking the trend for exclusively UK-based CEMs - a fact that Business Development Manager, Mark Howitt, puts down to AWS' highly customer focused ethos and structure.

The company has recently invested in an entire new surface mount production line, including screen printer and reflow oven capable of lead-free temperature profiles.

It has also invested in a new screen printer and a new reflow oven for one of the existing lines, and upgraded the reflow oven on a third line.

These are all now fully commissioned and in production, and complete the company's programme of investment in lead-free manufacturing capability that sees the entire company now able to operate either lead-based or lead-free.

The company has also nearly completed trials into lead-free manufacture for both surface mount and through hole capabilities, and offers a lead-free advisory service to help clients convert in good time.

Other investments in recent months have included a thermal cycling environmental test chamber, nitrogen atmosphere PCB assembly bagging equipment, argon-atmosphere test equipment and a third cable harness auto-test machine.

"We grew by 48% last year and 36% the year before".

"We'll put in place whatever investment is necessary to support such growth".

"And the beauty of this growth is that most of it comes from existing, satisfied customers", said Howitt.
