Axsem has developed a complete ready-to-go kit for evaluation of its AX5042 ultranarrowband low-cost RF transceiver IC.

Axsem has developed a complete ready-to-go kit for evaluation of its AX5042 ultranarrowband low-cost RF transceiver IC, which is ideally suited for long-range applications in the sub1GHz ISM bands (433/868/915MHz).

The AX5042 also complies with the IEEE802.15.4 PHY layer specification and is the perfect choice for automatic meter reading (AMR), home and building automation as well as industrial and consumer applications.

The AX5042-EVK USB evaluation kit is a simple to use platform for evaluation and development of RF systems It enables users to configure the RF parameters and the baseband of the AX5042 RF transceiver.

It also offers the possibility to send packet data easily and measure packet error rate.

The evaluation kit includes two miniature USB development and evaluation boards, which comprises an Axsem AX5042 narrowband RF transceiver IC and an onboard 8051 microcontroller with integrated USB interface and 16Kbyte of Flash memory.

The board is configured for the connection of an external antenna; however an internal loop antenna is integrated on the board.

The microcontroller hosts a demo application that is used to interface the RF transceiver over a USB port to the AXcontrol EVK windows application, which helps configure the evaluation board and can also be easily used to measure packet error rate.

The included USB programmer for the onboard 8051 microcontroller, the open source and licence free SDCC compiler make the AX5042-EVK a powerful, yet cost-effective development environment, which lets users start development immediately.
