SBCs target entry-level applications
Two new fanless 3.5in embedded platforms answer continuing demands for low-power entry-level SBCs.
Available in a choice of configurations and options, the SBC offers developers a robust and reliable platform to build on with the added benefit of being able to realise faster times to market for new products.
EPIC is a new standard single board computer (SBC) with a defined 115 x 165mm form factor, which suits a broad range of applications for which EBX is too large a solution and PC/104-Plus would require multiple boards.
The standard allows PC-style connectors for I/Os instead of the pin-headers common on PC/104 designs, and it also tends to increase reliability, particularly in environments that are prone to extreme shock and vibration.
The ideal cost effective compact size single board computer easily works with regular laptop Intel Pentium M and Celeron M CPUs.
This helps to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) when compared with other small form factor SBCs with onboard low power CPU supported only, and furthermore, the EP810 offers a CPU option with an ultra low voltage onboard 1GHz Intel Celeron M processor.
For wireless terminal applications, this embedded board supports Mini PCI Type III expansion for off-the-shelf modules in the market.
Furthermore, the board offers a dual LVDS LCD display function, which is a popular display solution for transaction terminals, such as DualView self-help fuelling machines and DualView POS/Kiosk systems.
"The EP810 continues to strengthen our appeal to developers as they are able to come to one manufacturer for all embedded requirements", said Joseph Chou, Product Manager of Embedded Computing Division.
"The EPIC form factor provides more I/O features compared with 3.5in SBCs and less unnecessary cost wasting compared with 5.25in SBCs on embedded applications".
Other I/O features include two 10/100/1000Mbit/s LAN interfaces, CompactFlash, four USB 2.0 ports, AC97 audio codec, and digital I/O.
The EP810 will be available in the middle of February 2006.
