SBCs target entry-level applications
Two new fanless 3.5in embedded platforms answer continuing demands for low-power entry-level SBCs.
The EP600 targets industrial and harsh embedded computing devices that require ultralow power consumption, rock solid operating systems, rich I/O integration, rich multimedia functions and fanless operation.
To meet the original EPIC concept, which features PC/104 expansion capability, the EP600 comes with both PC/104 for 16bit ISA and PCI104 for 32bit PCI interfaces.
The EP600 is an ideal solution for a single embedded board to support the reliable and antivibration PC/104+ expansion.

Pentium 4-based SBC has power to burn
The SBC81827 is a standard full-size single board computer powered by a Pentium 4 CPU, with advanced features like optional SCSI, CompactFlash, Gigabit Ethernet and USB ports.
This fanless embedded board also supports 200-pin DDR SODIMM sockets for up to 1Gbyte of DDR400 memory, and supports dual segments with non-ECC memory.
"Powered by the power efficient VIA Luke processor with VIA VT8237R Plus South Bridge, the EP600 delivers a rich digital media experience and advanced connectivity, which makes it an ideal solution for car PCs, POS/POI/kiosk, gaming, industrial control and other interactive appliances requiring a low-power single board controller", said Joseph Chou, Product Manager of Axiomtek's Embedded Computing Division.
"Available in a choice of configurations and options, the EP600 offers developers a robust and reliable platform with the added benefit of helping speed time to market in developing new products".
EPIC is a new standard single board computer (SBC) with a 115 x 165mm form factor, which provides more I/O features than 3.5in SBCs and less unnecessary costs when compared with 5.25in SBCs in embedded applications.
The EP600 is the most ideal SBC for this form factor's advantages.
The standard allows PC-style connectors for I/Os instead of the pin-headers common on PC/104 designs, and it also tends to increase reliability, particularly in environments prone to extreme shock and vibration.
Additionally, the function-rich board provides dual fast Ethernet for network communication (optional Gigabit Ethernet), four USB 2.0 ports for high speed peripherals, digital I/O for industrial control applications, and DualView for both LVDS LCD and CRT displays.
As a result, the EP600 is a popular display solution for transaction terminals such as DualView self-help fuelling machines and DualView POS/kiosk systems.
Other rich I/O features include CompactFlash Type II with DMA mode, AC97 codec audio, watchdog timer and four COM ports.
This RoHS compliant product will be available around the end of October 2006.
