Newbridge based contract electronics manufacturer Axiom Manufacturing Services, secured a long-term multi-million-pound contract to supply Bristol-based Radiodetection.

A South Wales company has created highly skilled jobs and firmly established itself in the box build assembly market after winning a contract with a major OEM serving customers across the world.

Newbridge based contract electronics manufacturer (CEM) Axiom Manufacturing Services, secured a long-term multi-million-pound contract to supply Bristol-based Radiodetection.

Along with a number of recent contract wins this continues to underpin Axiom's success in the long term.

Radiodetection specialises in the design and development of high-end quality products for the location and maintenance of underground pipes and cables.

The close relationship with Radiodetection began in 2002 when Axiom first provided a manufacturing service for printed circuit board assemblies.

Commercial Director for Axiom, David Davies, said: "Winning this contract has helped to create highly skilled new jobs and secure the business for the near future".

"It is the most comprehensive manufacturing contract that this company has ever signed and allows us to plan our new technology and put in place long-term training programmes for our staff".

"Axiom is now firmly established as a player in the box build market.

This has given the company more leverage in the supply chain and will make it clear to other customers that we can deliver the service they need, on time and consistently of the highest quality at the optimum acquisition cost".

One of the key factors in the new contract is "just-in-time" production.

This is crucial for the market in which Radiodetection operates where flexibility is paramount.

Roger Holmes, Managing Director of Radiodetection, said: "The relationship between Axiom and RD has been highly successful for both companies".

The manufacturing sector in Wales has suffered in recent years due to cheaper labour forces from low cost regions.

Axiom is bucking this trend by expanding its UK contract electronics manufacturing base with a multiskilled workforce that can offer added value to customers due to their experience, expertise and flexibility.
