Following the installation of sophisticated new equipment, to further enhance its existing quality, manufacturing and test capabilities, Axiom is expanding its involvement in the low to medium volume specialist manufacture for the aerospace and defence industry.
Managing Director of Axiom, Shaun Ashmead, explains: "We have already forged links with key industry players such as Selex Communications and with this new investment, we aim to build substantially on this in the months ahead".

Chinese EMS facility gains medical approval
ISO13485 approval adds considerable value to the Stadium Asia offering in the high reliability and high technology medical sector.
The new equipment including a state-of-the-art surface mount technology (SMT) line, a digital X-ray inspection system and a flying probe (fixtureless) test system enables Axiom to fulfil its aim of providing the "total solution" to its customers.
Says Ashmead: "Providing our customers with solutions which are flexible, reliable, safe and cost effective has been key to our business operations and service offerings".
"Our approach towards customers in the defence and aerospace industry is no different, but we are aware of the challenges facing our clients and we work closely with them to deliver the best solution".
The investment in the Fuji AIM SMT line has enabled Axiom to dramatically reduce changeover times, making them even more responsive while also reducing time to market of products significantly.
The SMT line is capable of picking and placing the smallest components existing in the marketplace (01005).
Having become the first manufacturer in Europe to successfully trial the machinery last year, Axiom was among the first companies in the UK to offer its customers access to such capabilities.
Similarly, the Dage 7600 XiDAT digital X-ray inspection system has helped Axiom enhance its service offering, furthering its quality inspection capabilities which are essential to the accuracy demanded by the defence and aerospace industries.
The investment in a (fixtureless) flying probe test system - the Takaya APT 9411CE - has strengthened Axiom's in-circuit test offering, positioning Axiom well in supporting the industry.
The flying probe is heavily used by industries which usually have short production runs which are sometimes prohibited from providing suitable test points due to design constraints, and provides a quick and comprehensive test solution for prototypes.
Ashmead concludes: "With increased capabilities we will be operating a leaner supply chain which will, in turn, help reduce customers total acquisition costs and increase our service to our customers".
