PowerPC processor gains software platform
Network operating system specialist Wasabi Systems is to provide a port of Wasabi Certified BSD for the AMCC PowerPC 440SP processor.
Network operating system specialist Wasabi Systems is to provide a port of Wasabi Certified BSD for the AMCC PowerPC 440SP processor.
"AMCC has a rich set of processor solutions that target the networked storage application space", said Frank G Logan, III, President and CEO of Wasabi Systems.
"We in turn provide a comprehensive portfolio of software building blocks that range from the core network OS, to protocol stacks such as iSCSI, up through complete, turnkey storage solutions that complement 440SP platforms".
"The combination of Wasabi Systems' software and AMCC's embedded reference platforms allow OEMs to accelerate time to market for new products".
"Our job is to ensure AMCC customers have the tools they need to bring their products to market on time and under budget".
"We are pleased that AMCC 440SP customers will be able to do just this, with support from Wasabi's leading software platform", said Charlie Ashton, Director of PowerPC Software at AMCC.
The AMCC 440SP delivers speeds of up to 667MHz and executes up to two instructions per cycle.
The 440SP processor also offers three PCI-X version 2.0 interfaces, on-chip double datarate (DDR I/DDR II), SDRAM controller, I20 messaging unit, XOR accelerator unit, and a rich mix of peripherals including an on-chip 10/100/1000Mbit/s Ethernet port.
To increase performance in RAID applications, the PowerPC 440SP employs a unique two-way crossbar processor local bus (PLB), which provides a high-bandwidth data pathway between the processor core, the PCIbus, and the memory controller.
Wasabi Certified BSD, with its high performance and small footprint kernel, offers unique advantages to OEMs developing solutions with the PowerPC 440SP and related I/O processors.
With its industry-leading networking capabilities and unparalleled platform support, Wasabi Certified BSD is the superior option for advanced storage devices and embedded systems.
In addition to providing full commercial support, it is licensed to OEMs on a per-seat basis and is free of the many legal issues associated with other open source operating systems and solutions governed by the GPL.
Wasabi has provided extensive support for other PowerPC variants, including PPC 440GP and PPC 440GX processors.
Wasabi Storage Builder is a complete, turnkey software solution that enables OEMs to deliver high-performance iSCSI target appliances.
Modular, scalable, and able to run on off-the-shelf hardware, Wasabi Storage Builder is the most advanced software platform available today for creating iSCSI-enabled networked storage devices.
Wasabi Storage Builder is compatible with all IETF compliant initiators and has been thoroughly validated with initiators available in server operating systems from Microsoft and Linux.
