Applied Micro Circuits Corp has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance, the global not-for-profit organisation devoted to promoting the growth of wireless local area networks (WLANs).

As a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, AMCC can directly participate in activities shaping the future of the wireless market as well as global industry events either sponsored or organised by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

"Wireless-enabled products will continue to proliferate in the market, advancing our ability to stay connected in almost any environment".

"AMCC is committed to helping make this possible by providing reliable and timely products to customers developing Wi-Fi technologies".

"As a new member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, we look forward to further expanding our presence within the wireless community", said Sam Fuller, Vice President of Marketing at AMCC.

"For several years now, over half of all enterprise-class access points shipped have relied on PowerPC processors from AMCC.

As the industry moves toward the faster and more complex 802.11n standard, the need for versatile, high performance processors like AMCC's 440EP and 440EPx is only expected to grow", continued Fuller.

"We are pleased to have AMCC, one of the wireless communications industry leaders, join the Wi-Fi Alliance", said Frank Hanzlik, Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director.

"As a strong supporter of interoperability and the 802.11 technology, we are confident that AMCC will help our organisation in achieving our goal of enhancing the user experience through product interoperability".

The Wi-Fi Alliance, formerly WECA, is an organisation of companies dedicated to ensuring interoperability of IEEE802.11 products to the wireless community.

The alliance has established parameters for testing member products to ensure interoperability with other Wi-Fi Certified products.

Overall, the organisation ensures wireless networking users a perfect experience.
