Bafbox's new custom membrane keypad division, Custom Keypads, aims to deliver the same service to the UK membrane keypad market as its parent company provides in custom enclosures.
Custom keypads and enclosures on show
Custom enclosure specialist Bafbox is demonstrating the merits of a one-stop shop approach to custom designed enclosures and membrane keypads at the Manufacturing Technology Scotland Exhibition.
Custom Design Technologies has long experience in providing PCB design, prototyping of PCBs, fabrication of enclosures, manufacture of membrane keypads and production and assembly of all parts that are needed for a complete project to get to market.
Its wide ranging skills are ideal for producing systems used in access control, CCTV equipment, fire detection, identification systems, integrated systems, networked security, physical security products and retail security applications.
The company's multiskill capabilities are suitably illustrated by a custom enclosure and membrane keypad provided for a parking system enclosure from leading access control system manufacturer Nortech Control Systems.

New name at Nepcon
Custom DesignTechnologies will be a new name making an appearance at Nepcon 2002, but it won't be the first time that the company has exhibited at the show.
NortimePro is a unique access control system designed for applications that require parking to be controlled and limited by time and date such as in hotel, railway and similar applications.
Cards are encoded at a reception point and subsequently used to gain access to and from a parking area.
Cards can be validated for a pre-determined period during which they will normally be returned to the user and after which they can be retained, allowing them to be reused.
NortimePro features two primary components, the encoder and the reader/controller.
The encoder is a self-contained unit normally sited in an easily accessible place that would be permanently manned such as an hotel reception desk.
The reader is supplied with a dedicated controller and power supply normally housed in a control reader sited at the car park entrance/exit.
Custom Design Technologies created a housing for the encoder that would be smart enough for use in hotel reception areas but at the same time provided a cost-effective solution for low volume production quantities.
The company's fabrication technique allows production of custom enclosures without the tooling costs associated with injection moulding.
CDT's Custom Keypads division provided a stylish membrane keypad resulting in a smart and robust enclosure with a custom interface that is easy to use.
From the customer's viewpoint, CDT was able to come up with a design for the enclosure and keypad and supply prototypes in around one month and any modifications, such as the addition of stylish grooves to the enclosure were made with little or no additional expense.
Once the design was approved, units were manufactured and delivered very quickly.
Also on show are examples of products manufactured by CDT's Custom Assembly division.
Set up to respond quickly to customer requests and comfortable with volumes from prototype quantities to full production runs into the thousands, Custom Assembly offers the same levels of customer service and quality for which Custom Design Technologies is renowned.
Many OEMs are now finding that shorter lifecycle products, along with increasing demands for flexibility from customers, mean that outsourcing production reduces operating costs, frees up capital and allows for greater flexibility.
It also enables OEMs to concentrate on the core activities of design, sales and marketing.
The range of services offered by Custom Assembly encompasses prototyping, inspection, assembly, test, calibration, PCB and cables and harnesses.
Custom Design Technologies is exhibiting on Stand 433, Hall 7 at Ifsec 2006.
