Many machinery OEMs have started to adopt 'single-box' motion control solutions integrating a drive and motion controller.

Baldor saw a growth of almost 160% during 2000 for its innovative MintDrive product, which integrates a brushless servo drive with a full-featured motion controller which supports complex motion profiles as well as simple positioning applications.

The technology provides significant space and cost savings and, because of the integral CAN fieldbus support, the means to eliminate a PLC machine controller.

These major advantages lead the company to believe that this segment will continue to grow extremely rapidly throughout 2001 and beyond, and Baldor intends to expand its range by adding a variant with Profibus fieldbus interconnectivity, and a low cost version which addresses the most complex of positioning and point-to-point movement applications.
