Baldor has launched a range of AC vector-duty motors constructed using steel band techniques, for automation applications requiring very precise control of speed and torque Baldor reckons the ZEM Series introduce a new price/performance point in the adjustable speed marketplace, offering cost savings of some 30% compared with cast iron-based products, or increased durability compared with aluminium frame motors

Moreover the motors are available in IP23 variants in addition to the conventional IP54, making them highly suitable for use as maintenance-free and/or energy efficient alternatives to DC units in sheltered operating environments.

A choice of 15 ratings is available, spanning powers from 1.5 to 75kW (1 to 100hp), in IEC frame sizes from D90 to 250.

The motors are fitted with a hollow shaft encoder for feedback, plus an integral axial fixed speed blower.

Offering base speeds from 1750 to 3550rev/min, with a 1000:1 constant torque speed range, the ZEM Series allows full load torque at zero speed.

These features provide a cost-effective basis to implement automation equipment for a wide range of industry sectors.

Among the target applications are packaging and materials handling machinery, and extruding, wire coiling and paper winding automation.

A number of special features have been incorporated to boost reliability, including heavy gauge steel, premium grade ball bearings lubricated with the latest Polyrex EM grease for long life in extreme conditions, class H insulation, and ISR inverter spike resistant wire.
