Seminar to explain latest ESD standards

A British Electrostatic Control Association product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Mar 25, 2008

Expert speakers will show how the principles of successful ESD prevention and management are implemented in the current and future 61340-5-1 standards.

BECA, the British Electrostatic Control Association, is holding a one-day seminar on Thursday 5th June 2008 at Sandford Springs Golf Club, Kingsclere, Hampshire.

The seminar fee is GBP 190 (plus VAT), with discounts for group bookings and BECA members and associate members, and includes delegate pack, lunch and refreshments.

It will not only provide an opportunity for the experienced to update their knowledge of electrostatic discharge prevention in the electronics industry using the current standards but will also help newcomers to the subject to gain an understanding of ESD prevention and control practice.

The main theme will be implementing ESD prevention with the forthcoming updated 61340-5-1 standard and how it differs from previous standards.

The BS EN61340-5-1 and -2 standards are well established but the IEC published a new version of 61340-5-1 in August 2007 as a worldwide ESD standard, which is likely to replace the current BS EN61340-5-1 this year.

The team of BECA expert speakers, with a vast collective industrial experience, will show how the principles of successful ESD prevention and management are implemented in the current and future 61340-5-1 standards.

They will look at how the next versions of 61340-5-1 and the user guide 61340-5-2 were developed in response to world electronics industry needs, and some of the challenges and opportunities these documents will bring.

Workshop sessions will focus on the key requirements of the new standard, choosing equipment and materials for the ESD protected area, practical test methods and auditing techniques, and the principles and practice of ESD packaging.

The day will round off with a panel discussion session that will provide a forum for delegates to discuss ESD protection issues with the experts.
