DC/DC convertors keep weight and cost down

A Bel Power product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Feb 6, 2008

UL/cUL 60950-1 DC/DC convertors suit distributed power architecture applications where space is limited and overall weight is a factor.

The Bel Power division of Bel Fuse has released the 0RQB-C0U series of open-frame isolated DC/DC convertors.

The RoHS-compliant isolated and nonisolated power DC/DC convertors suit high-speed networking, telecommunications and computing applications.

Housed in the industry standard 1/4 brick package, the low-cost series provides up to 100W of output power from a nominal 48V input.

They have a 4-to-1 input voltage range to accommodate both a 24 and 48V standard input voltage in the same module.

It has built-in input and output filtering to further minimise part counts.

The devices operate at efficiencies up to 91% from 1.2 to 12V.

The UL/cUL 60950-1 units can be used in distributed power architecture applications where space is limited and overall weight is a factor.

Among the most common uses for these high power density parts are in wireless networks, optical and access networks, as well as in industrial networks and equipment.

Additionally, their open-frame construction makes them suited for convection-cooled environments.

The isolated DC/DC convertors offer a full complement of control and protection features that include differential remote on/off, positive/negative remote sense, input over/under-voltage lockout and over-temperature protection.

Parts also offer output voltage trim, current limit and short circuit protection.

These devices switch at a fixed frequency (285kHz) and have an operating temperature range of -40 to +85C.
