Lasers aim for high-performance applications

A Blue Sky Research product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Sep 2, 2003

ChromaLase lasers are designed to meet the demanding requirements of high-performance OEM applications such as biomedical and analytical instrumentation, alignment and semiconductor metrology.

The ChromaLase series of lasers is designed to meet the demanding requirements of high performance OEM applications, such as biomedical and analytical instrumentation, alignment and semiconductor metrology.

Standard features include TEC coolers, integrated drive, control, and monitor electronics.

Blue Sky Research's other laser products include laser diodes, laser diode subassemblies, single-mode fibre-coupled lasers and integrated modules.

Lasers will be available in several visible and near IR wavelengths between 405 and 980nm.

All offer stable power over a wide temperature range, low noise, high power efficiency, small form factor, and diffraction limited beam quality.

"The new ChromaLase series of lasers that we are releasing over the coming months demonstrate Blue Sky Research's fundamental strengths in laser diode manufacturing, packaging, electronics design and laser system integration, as well as our ability to manufacture high performance lasers at a very compelling market price", said Chris Gladding, President and CEO of Blue Sky Research.

"We will be offering several product lines that are demonstrably superior to the competition in terms of optical power, stability over time and temperature, small footprint, and cost.

Simply put, we are manufacturing innovation into our lasers".

Blue Sky Research is a vertically integrated manufacturer of lasers and integrated modules with over 10 years experience in the industry.

The company's origins as an innovator date back to 1993, when Blue Sky Research won the Product of the Year award from Laser Focus World magazine and was included in Photonics Spectra magazine's Circle of Excellence for its patented microlens technology.

Blue Sky Research's staff includes PhDs and experts in fields ranging from semiconductor and laser diode manufacturing, to optical packaging, advanced electronics and mechanical design.

With manufacturing capabilities that include both offshore partnerships as well as an in-house semiconductor foundry, the company is uniquely placed to rapidly develop and manufacture superior products in response to market demands.

"We have positioned Blue Sky Research to take advantage of the company's core capabilities, and we continue to expand our R and D and manufacturing activities to meet today's and tomorrow's performance and pricing requirements", said Gladding.

Blue Sky Research is developing the next generation of solid state, laser diode and single harmonic generation lasers to offer the marketplace a competitive technology for HeNe and Ar laser replacement.
