Sample kit brings voltage dividers to hand

A BI Technologies Electronic Components Division product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Oct 3, 2005

BI Technologies Electronic Component Division has developed an engineering sample kit of its SOT-23 packaged precision voltage divider networks.

Providing design engineers with a supply of precision resistive devices for prototyping and design work, TT Electronics BI Technologies Electronic Component Division has developed an engineering sample kit of its SOT-23 packaged precision voltage divider networks.

Designated the SS1 Series, these divider networks consist of two ultrastable nichrome thin film resistors on silicon substrates, connected in series within a standard plastic SOT-23 lead package.

The divider network sample kits are comprised of four sets of ten devices each.

The specifications for the networks in the sample kit include SOT-23 dividers with 12.4/20, 10/100, 5/20 and 20/20kohm resistance values, all with absolute tolerances to 0.5%, ratio tolerance to 0.1% and TCR of +/-25ppm/C.

In addition to the standard values presented in datasheets and in the design kits, BI Technologies will also produce devices with custom specifications to meet customer requirements.

"The smaller, two-resistor network gives design engineers the flexibility to place the network anywhere on the circuit board", said Mike Torres, Applications Engineer and Product Marketing Manager for BI Technologies Electronic Component Division.

"With the sample kits, the engineers can have the ability to try out different circuit layouts in the prototyping or breadboard phase of their design".

BI Technologies' proprietary passivation process eliminates concerns about moisture environments for the nichrome resistive elements.

Environmental testing for 1000 hours at 85C and 85% RH resulted in a less than 0.2% shift in resistance values, making these resistors ultrastable with long-term reliability.

The resistive elements are sealed in standard SOT-23 packages to provide further mechanical and environmental protection.

The networks are used extensively in voltage divider and gain circuits for aerospace, industrial, military and medical industries.
