A fixed output DC/DC convertor with a wide input voltage range provides design engineers with a robust 2W device suitable for high temperature environments.

Providing design engineers with a robust 2W device suitable for high temperature environments, TT electronics BI Technologies Electronic Components Division has developed a fixed output DC/DC convertor with a wide input voltage range.

The 831 Series DC/DC convertor eliminates heatsink requirements and is packaged in a small, space saving hybrid SIP configuration that minimises PC board footprint.

According to Mike Ochoa-Hougan, Hybrid Product Manager for BI Technologies Electronic Components Division, the efficient design of the convertor makes it robust, economical and easy to use for design engineers who need to add logic-level power for control circuitry in commercial electromechanical systems.

"The convertor uses a ceramic base and hybrid technology to virtually eliminate any external heatsink requirements, thus reducing the overall installed cost of the device", Ochoa-Hougan said.

"All the device requires is two external capacitors".

The 831 Series devices feature a wide input voltage range, tight load regulation, and current limit protection, yielding a versatile POL DC/DC convertor, Ochoa-Hougan continued.

The DC/DC convertors are ideal for commercial applications with a need for a point-of-load source of low-voltage power for control circuitry.

The 2W devices feature a fixed output voltage of 5V (3.3V available) at up to 400mA, and an input voltage range of 12 to 32V DC.

Line regulation is 1.0% (measured at 16 to 32V at 400mA) with load regulation of 1.0% (at 100 to 400mA).

Operating temperature is -10 to +70C.

BI Technologies will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

The 9-pin DC/DC convertor measures 1.0 x 0.5 x 0.225in, with typical lead spacing of 0.10in.

The convertor can also be vertically or horizontally mounted.

Typical pricing for the 831 Series convertors is approximately $4.00 in medium range volumes, with lead times from stock to 8 weeks.
