Sound business for contract manufacturer

Over the next twelve months, Cambridge-based Imerge is to double its business with contract electronics manufacturer BI Electronics to GBP 2 million.

Over the next twelve months, Cambridge-based Imerge, Europe's leading hard-disk media appliance technology innovator, is to double its business with contract electronics manufacturer BI Electronics to GBP 2 million.

The contract will involve the production of a new "SoundServer" which will be launched this Autumn.

For the past year BI Electronics has manufactured the Imerge S1000 SoundServer in a purpose-built part of its Welwyn Garden City plant.

The comprehensive services provided by BI Electronics include printed circuit board assembly, procurement of components, fittings and casings, complete product build, software upload, full testing and packing and despatch to stores, wholesalers and private customers.

Imerge and BI Electronics have installed sophisticated software and remote access systems which allow Imerge to log into a dedicated server and check on the test data for all audio systems that have passed through test.

In addition, Imerge can perform remote diagnostic checks on any unit exhibiting a nonstandard response.

Gavin Smith, manufacturing project manager at Imerge says: "When introducing a product into a new market area it is very difficult to predict sales volumes.

We chose BI Electronics initially because the flexibility of their production group ensures a rapid response to requests for extra units.

This confidence has been borne out over the past year and has led to us increasing our business with the company".

Launched last May, the S1000 SoundServer is a revolutionary new home entertainment product which enables users to store and organise their entire CD music collection on an 80GB hard disk for playback through conventional music systems using standard in-room controllers, for single or multiple room solutions.
