A greatly increased level of business and the recruitment of extra staff has led contract electronics manufacturer BI Electronics to move to a modern 2400m2 facility in Welwyn Garden City.

A greatly increased level of business and the recruitment of extra staff has led contract electronics manufacturer BI Electronics to move to a modern 2400m2 facility in Welwyn Garden City.

The company's original plant nearby is currently being used to assemble complete products for a major customer.

The 1800m2 single-span manufacturing area houses five production lines for both surface-mount and through-hole assembly, an express prototyping line, hand assembly lines, comprehensive test facilities, stores for materials and finished products, design, purchasing and despatch and several dedicated product assembly areas.

Full flexibility is ensured by keeping production equipment on standby to enable new lines to be configured rapidly to meet the requirements of new customers.

The first floor houses the senior management and the sales, finance, quality and IT sections.

Commenting on the move, Managing Director of BI Electronics Gerry Howley said: "The extra space in the new building means we can operate with increased efficiency and will enable us to meet our expansion plans.

With an increasing part of our business coming from building complete products for our customers, more room was needed to accommodate the dedicated assembly areas".
