Audio analysers offer 96kHz digital capability

A TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) product story

Three new products have been introduced to Audio Precision's market-leading System Two Cascade range of audio analysers, available exclusively in the UK from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments).

Part of a completely new range of audio analyser products and options with 96kHz digital capability, the System Two Cascade represents a considerable engineering investment based on feedback from customers worldwide.

The 96kHz sampling rates for digital audio are used in high-bandwidth applications, where frequency response greater than twice the normal 20kHz upper limit of human hearing is required.

The three new models include the 'flagship' SYS-2522A: the Dual Domain Cascade version featuring 96kHz digital audio, dual-channel analogue output/input plus a dual channel DSP analyser.

It also has a dual-channel DAC signal source plus digital input and output.

It uses the Audio Precision advanced Cascade DSP platform.

A companion model, SYS-2422A, has the new platform improvements but is without digital I/0.

A digital only model, SYS-2500A, is also available.

Cascade Dual Domain and Digital I/0 versions incorporate digital inputs and outputs with continuous capability from 8 to 200kHz sample rates to encompass digital rates from telecommunication applications through to the new 96kHz sampling rates for consumer and professional audio equipment.

Reflecting its name, the Cascade family represents a series of progressive steps, each providing the user with more testing options and higher performance and speed.

Cascade versions supplement but do not replace standard System Two models, and existing System Two units may be converted to Cascade versions.

Three major internal analogue options may be fitted to Cascade units.

The BUR option adds analogue domain generation of burst sine waves with controllable burst duration, interval and lower amplitude between bursts, plus analogue square waves to 20kHz, analogue random and pseudorandom white and pink noise, and bandpass-filtered pink noise.

The IMD option analyses analogue domain devices for intermodulation distortion to the SMPTE/DIN, CCIF (twin tone or difference tone) and DIM/TIM (dynamic/transient intermodulation distortion) standards.

To measure analogue wow and flutter to the IEC/DIN, NAB, JIS and scrape flutter standards, weighted or unweighted, the W and F option is available.
