This audio test and measurement system with dual-domain capability is a PC-based instrument which offers performance enhancements to the award winning System Two.

The system also includes an unmatched -112dB specification for THD+N audio testing.

Cascade Plus provides a high performance level with a 6-7dB reduction in Audio Precision's already low residual distortion for testing the next generation of convertors.

FFT acquisition memory has been increased to 4Msample, or greater than one minute of acquisition at 48Ksample/s.

This enables the user to pick out events spread over a large amount of time and zero in for an in-depth view of the event.

Nth-octave smoothing provides smoothing widths of 0 to 2.6 octaves.

Based on ANSI specification S1.11-1986, this allows very fast interpretation of test results.

The multitone analyser in Cascade Plus, consisting of an FFT analyser coupled with an arbitrary waveform generator, carries out five performance tests in less than one second - all in one acquisition.

This eliminates errors by providing a comprehensive set of answers to performance questions with one easy setup.

The serial digital interface analyser has a 3MHz analyser as well as an error generator that measures and displays the digital interface signal and tests a circuit's ability to perform in the presence of jitter.

With PC-based functionality, Cascade Plus gives a familiar interface to allow monitoring of instruments, graphic display of test data and simple sharing and archiving of data.

Reports may be generated in preferred word-processing applications, and test data can be exported to analysis programs such as Matlab for extended analysis.

Using the capture feature, test sequences can be created and run without extensive programming experience.

Addon options that extend the use of the instrument include a programmable serial interface adaptor and an improved AES-17 lowpass filter.

The interface adaptor has full, soft programmable operation to assist engineers and technicians with their digital audio circuit designs.

The filter eliminates out-of-band D/A convertor noise during testing.
