An upgraded 8-digit 1.3GHz frequency counter comes in an all-new 2U height benchtop case and can measure low frequencies to a resolution of 1uHz.

The newly revised TF830 from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) is an 8-digit 1.3GHz frequency counter which uses an all-new 2U height benchtop case and can measure low frequencies to a resolution of 1uHz The TF830 uses the reciprocal frequency counting technique to achieve high resolution at all frequencies

Reciprocal counting involves synchronised multiple period measurements followed by computation of the reciprocal value.

This results in high-resolution measurements regardless of the signal frequency and eliminates the +/-1 input cycle errors of a conventional frequency counter.

As well as measuring low frequencies to a resolution of 1uHz, the system yields at least seven digits of resolution per second of measurement time.

In addition to frequency measurement, the TF830 offers period measurement, frequency ratio, pulsewidth measurement and event counting.

Pulsewidth measurements can be made from rising to falling edge or vice versa.

A version of the TF830 with an RS232 interface is also available in which all functions can be remotely controlled, and measurements can be read back to the controller.

This makes it suitable for use in a wide variety of automatic measurement systems.

The TF830 has an LCD, and its low power consumption allows it to be operated from internal batteries as well as from its internal AC power supply.

The TF830 costs GBP 203 (plus VAT) in the UK.
