Smart sensors make multiple microwave
measurements

This concept overcomes the limitations of traditional microwave power meters, which have historically required a multitude of different sensors, including thermal and diode devices, to cover all applications.
In the NRP family, a single sensor performs all the necessary measurements.
The Smart sensor approach combines multiple-path architecture, multiple-diode technology and a simultaneous scanning multichannel measurement system.
Advantages over conventional technology include a high signal/noise ratio throughout, low modulation effects, negligible delays and discontinuities when switching signal paths, and the ability to perform a time-domain analysis of the test signal within the available video bandwidth.
The high measurement accuracy and dynamic range of 90dB for broadband signals of any modulation mean that the NRP instruments will support future requirements such as new types of broadband modulation in third-generation mobile radio systems.
In addition, they are also capable of handling the RF bandwidths beyond 100MHz that are already under discussion for wireless LAN systems.
Ease of operation is ensured by an intuitive user interface, with the high-resolution display indicating up to four measurement results at a time.
All calibration data is stored in the sensor, which ensures high precision measurements by minimising the potential for operator errors.
Each NRP power meter can accommodate up to four sensors at the same time, and can be fully remote controlled via GPIB.
In addition, the sensors are intelligent stand-alone instruments that communicate with the basic unit or a PC via a USB interface.
The lightweight and robust instruments can be powered from an optional battery for several hours, making mobile use simple.
With an operating temperature range from 0 to 50C, the NRP series can be used under almost any conditions.
The sensors can perform reliable measurements for an extended period of time owing to the long calibration interval of two years.
