Powerful claims for laser diode bar
At Photonics West, Bookham will launch the world's most powerful commercially available continuous wave laser diode bar.
Pump module eases DSL replacement
The multimode laser diode allows service providers to extend triple-play service delivery to fibre customers located further away from the central office or the cable head-end.
The full product portfolio will be making its US debut at the Bookham stand (1727).
Highlights include a 2.4kW fast axis collimated 9xx nm vertical stack based on the Bookham 120W high power bars, which enables higher powers while using fewer bars on microchannel coolers.
The product facilitates the scaling-up of disk laser power and provides benefits for direct diode applications.

Modulator tunes lasers up to 40Gbit/s
Reduced size InP MZ platform will allow Bookham to offer 40Gbit/s products in smaller footprints compared with existing 40Gbit/s offerings employing larger optics.
Tunable transponder moves to smaller format
The 2.2 x 3in footprint enables network equipment manufacturers to increase port density, placing two SFF transponders on a card where only one LFF would fit.
Other exhibits will include: a range of linear bar array solutions (at 120, 200 and 300W) for the pumping of Nd:YAG lasers; 50W standard 30% fill factor and 50W high brightness 20% fill factor 9xx nm bars with fast axis collimation, which provide tailored brightness solutions for collimation and fibre coupling requirements; a 30W maxichip from an 800um emitting area for high brightness beam shaping or direct coupling into a standard 800um fibre without additional optics; and 7W high power single emitter modules for various fibre laser applications.
"We are building on our expertise to deliver high performance products in the formats that our customers need", explained Dr Steve Turley, Chief Commercial Officer at Bookham.
"This capability will enable our customers to achieve more cost effective and higher performance solutions in the rod, disk and fibre laser markets as well as pushing the boundaries for direct diode applications".
"We are also investing further in our global sales organisation to ensure that our customers in North America, Asia and Europe get the dedicated support that they need", he continued.
Dr Giorgio Anania, Chief Executive Officer of Bookham, will be joining an executive panel to discuss the Bookham strategy and his views on trends and opportunities within the marketplace.
"High power laser diodes will play a major role in the Bookham strategy for 2006 and beyond", said Dr Anania.
"Bookham is committed to providing high power laser diodes to the key industrial and defense markets and, based on the success we have seen in 2005, we see this portfolio as a major growth driver for us in 2006 and beyond".
Bookham is also presenting two papers covering high brightness laser diode bars, and 9xx high power pump modules at the associated Lase 2006 symposium.
