Huawei recognises supplier performance
Bookham has received the prestigious Excellent Supplier award from Huawei in recognition of the company's performance in 2005.
Bookham has received the prestigious Excellent Supplier award from Huawei - China's largest telecomms equipment vendor and the third largest telecomms optical networking equipment manufacturer worldwide - in recognition of the company's performance as a supplier in 2005 The award recognises in particular the quality and delivery performance achieved by Bookham with products manufactured in its major new assembly facility in Shenzhen, China, from which nearly all of the Bookham telecomms products are now being shipped

Bookham supplies a wide range of its high end optical components and modules to Huawei, including 10Gbit/s copackaged laser modulators, receivers, directly modulated lasers and optical pumps.
Over the last three years Huawei has ranked among the Bookham top three customers in most quarters and this is the second time Bookham has been honoured with an award from Huawei: in 2004, Bookham received the Gold Supplier of the Year Award, the first time an optical components company was awarded this prize.
"We are pleased to see that Bookham has maintained consistently high quality during the product transfer to Shenzhen and has even improved delivery performance since the transfer", said Danny Shi at Huawei.

Optical attenuator passes test programme
Bookham Technology's four-channel electronic variable optical attenuator (EVOA) has completed and passed the Telcordia GR1221 qualification programme.

Bookham opened an advanced manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, in the same area as Huawei, in March 2004.
Since then, transmit and receive optical assemblies, erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (EDFAs), mini gain block and metro amplifiers, and fibre and connector subassemblies have been transferred and received customer approval.
Production lines for receivers, pumps, direct modulated lasers and InP Mach-Zehnder (MZ) lasers have been fully qualified and customer volume shipment started.
Key quality systems and processes have also been established in Shenzhen in line with the company's best practices and global TL9000 and ISO9000:2000 registration.
"To receive an award from Huawei is an achievement of which we are extremely proud".

Bookham now employs over 950 people in its Shenzhen assembly facility.
