Wireless networking from Buffalo Technology has proved the solution to networking challenges imposed by the architecture of Lord Rotherwick's residence at Cornbury Park.
At the heart of the Airstation Pro is a new wireless access point with the antenna feed brought out to a coaxial connector to allow the use of externally mounted antennas.
The AirStation Pro solution is ideal for point-to-point (building to building) applications with a range of up to 3km.
It can also provide wireless coverage for multiple sites within a coverage area of 5km (multipoint operation) with the use of omnidirectional antennas.
Like other products in the Buffalo Airstation range, the Airstation Pro meets IEEE802.11b wireless standard for data communications at 11Mbit/s, and is interoperable with other wireless products meeting this specification.
It provides 13 channels in the licence-free 2.4GHz frequency band and several layers of built-in security including 128bit RSA data encryption system With its built in bridge to traditional wired networks, Airstation Pro can be directly connected to 10 or 100Mbit/s Ethernet systems and can also be used to by ISPs to deliver broadband services to users.
According to Ray Heppell (Technical Product Manager) of BATT Networks, which is now distributing Buffalo products, Airstation Pro opens up new cost effective networking solutions.
"We can recommend this product into schools or corporate environments where cabling would be a much more expensive option", he says.
"This wireless system can be set up very quickly to operate between buildings, without the need for any delay in planning or the ground works needed to install cables.
It also provides flexibility where temporary buildings are in use or satellite offices are on short term leases".
AirStation Pro point-to-point bundle costs GBP 1799.99 RRP.
This includes everything needed for connecting two buildings together.
Other Airstation products include a range of access points, PCMCIA wireless NICs and PCI and ISA adapters.
