Blundell Production Equipment is challenging any company to find a device that cannot be removed and replaced safely using its Ersa IR500A rework station Over the past 5 years the Ersa IR500A rework station has become the industry standard for safe removal and replacement of practically any component available, not only can it rework plastic devices, SMT devices, BGAs of all sizes, through hole devices, RF cans etc - usually quicker and safer than any system in use today without different nozzles - it also reworks LCD screens

The technology used outperforms for one simple reason: medium wavelength infra-red.

IR heat sources were given a bad name in the 1980s and early 1990s due to short or bright focused IR heat being used.

Like the sun, black objects would absorb more heat than the reflecting silver leads being soldered, and this would result in the circuit board being burnt and the device dying from the excess heat.

Medium wavelength however offers a better solution: not only does it supply completely even delta T, unlike hot air systems that can create hot spots and cold spots, but the absorption and reflection ratios are completely even, thus offering components of differing colours to be perfectly soldered, which is perfect for BGAs.

Lead free soldering applications carried out with the IR500A and new IR550A is also safe and easy, thanks to the unique heat source, unlike short-wave IR where the higher temperatures pose significant problems for chip and board safety.

Where a system is required to be future proof, the IR500A and IR550A fit the bill.
