Fabless design house Azul Systems has successfully implemented a high-density, high-speed design using the Cadence Encounter digital IC platform and RTL compiler With the Encounter flow, Azul minimised its risks in timing closure, power management, signal integrity and design for manufacturability

To realise top quality of silicon (QoS), Azul leveraged the leading technologies of the Encounter platform, including the Cadence RTL Compiler synthesis and Celtic signal integrity tools.

The design was targeted to a leading edge process from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Azul achieved maximised QoS through improved area, performance and power after wires.

Coupled with direct support from Cadence, Azul was able to take advantage of an extremely fast route to successful silicon.

"We used the Cadence Encounter flow with standard cell libraries from TSMC to design a high performance chip with multiple levels of hierarchy", said Scott Sellers, Vice President of Hardware Engineering, CTO and cofounder of Azul Systems.

"Utilising Celtic provided us an advanced signal integrity analysis capability".

"Coupled with RTL Compiler's concurrent global synthesis capabilities, this helped us achieve our aggressive frequency target".

"Working with Cadence gives us access to a pre-eminent design flow, leading edge tools and foundry support for our nanometre design".

"Azul's successful deployment of the Encounter platform was another example of our open industry collaboration", said Wei-Jin Dai, Platform Vice President, Digital IC Implementation for Cadence.

"Through optimisation of the TSMC in-house library technology data with the Encounter platform, and as a full-line distributor of TSMC in-house libraries, we are able to provide customers such as Azul easy access to top design automation technology and foundry expertise to meet their most pressing nanometre design challenges".
