Development kit gains more Bluetooth software
The CompactSira development kit from Cambridge Silicon Radio now comes with a sample CD of Rappore's Bluetooth host protocol stack, profiles and My Wirefree Network user interface.
This included 14 mobile phone design wins (including Nokia, Samsung and Motorola), and 33 headset wins (including Motorola, LG and Logitech).
CSR's closest competitor had 37 design wins for end products and modules listed on the Bluetooth website in 2004.
During the quarter, CSR achieved some notable design wins in the automotive sector for customers including Honda, Cellink, Hosiden, Harman Becker and Motorola.
Other notable design wins included a Bluetooth reference design for Kyocera, an MP3 player for Philips, a wireless GPS module for Nokia, an internal PC card for Dell using BlueCore4-external and the diNovo mouse keyboard and media pad for Logitech.
In terms of the Bluetooth market conditions, current IMS estimates for 2004 indicate shipments grew to 140 million from 64 million in 2003.
The outlook for 2005 promises further growth with predictions of shipments of 250 million chips for the year (source: IMS) as mobile phone attach-rates are expected to rise to between 20 and 30%, up from 16% in 2004 (CSR's estimate).
CSR expects to continue to recruit engineers in 2005 to support new R and D projects.
Commenting on the results, John Hodgson, CEO said: "We are delighted to have delivered such a strong performance in our first year as a public company, growing revenues by 274% and achieving $59 million of operating profit".
