Now shipping from Carlo Gavazzi are the D and P series of operation friendly monitoring relays These highly flexible relays are easily mounted, wired and configured

The single function ranges (A code) cover overcurrent/overvoltage and phase sequence/loss.

The extended function (B code) ranges handle both AC/DC over/under current or voltage and phase sequence/loss with voltage level (window) monitoring whilst the full function range (C code) adds further programmable features such as selectable output relay configuration.

Current inputs can be either direct (up to 10A) or via current transformers (CTs) for AC and standard shunts for DC.

This enables current monitoring up to 6000A AC or 10,000A DC.

Voltage inputs up to 500V AC/DC can be monitored directly and higher voltages can be monitored via voltage transformers.

Among the many application problems covered by the 3ph part of the range are those of phase imbalance.

This can lead to motors running at higher than normal temperatures, insulation breakdown and ultimately failure.

To counter this the DPB02 / PPB02 model (among others) offers asymmetry monitoring with adjustable level and time delay if required.

Another area covered is that of phase sequence and loss.

In the case of mobile compressors it is essential that the connected supply has the correct sequence, otherwise the compressor will run in the wrong direction, often with disastrous results.

In the case of phase loss to a motor, this can often go undetected because the motor regenerates the missing voltage and keeps running.

As before, this will lead to overheating and damage.

The DPA01/PPA01 relay will not only detect the correct phase sequence but also regenerated voltages as high as 85% of the nominal line voltage thus eliminating the problem.

The D series is supplied in 22.5mm DIN rail mount housing (45mm for full function versions) and the P series in 36mm wide, 11-pin plug-in housing.

Each series is functionally identical.
