LDOs are power-saving alternatives
Catalyst's LDO products are designed with a "quick start" feature to ensure a fast turn-on time of less than 150us, further optimising the devices for low-power applications.
Catalyst Semiconductor has made two further additions to its recently released low dropout (LDO) regulator product line The new CAT6217 and CAT6218 LDO regulators source 150 and 300mA output currents, respectively, in tiny five-lead 1mm-profile thin SOT-23 packages

Digitally programmable potentiometers to take over
Catalyst Semiconductor has added two new digitally programmable potentiometer (DPP) ICs to its AE2 (analogue EEPROM) mixed-signal product line.
EEPROM provides more secure MPU supervision
Catalyst Semiconductor has expanded its AE2 analogue EEPROM mixed-signal product strategy with the CAT116x series of microprocessor supervisory circuits with serial 16Kbit EEPROM.
Alternatives to LDO regulators from National Semiconductor, Micrel, Maxim and others, the CAT6217 and CAT6218 offer a low quiescent current combined with a low typical dropout voltage of 90mV at a 150mA load for the CAT6217 and 180mV at a 300mA load for the CAT6218.
Additionally, an external bypass capacitor reduces overall output noise making the devices ideal for low noise applications.
Many LDOs incorporating a bypass capacitor pay the penalty of slow "startup".
However, Catalyst's LDO products are designed with a "quick start" feature to ensure a fast turn-on time of less than 150us, further optimising the devices for low-power applications.
The CAT6217 and CAT6218 eliminate battery drain when not in use by entering a "zero" current shutdown mode.
They also offer a low typical quiescent current of 55uA and protection against short-circuit and thermal overload fault conditions.
The CAT6217 is available in output voltages of: 1.5, 1.8, 2.5, 2.8, 2.85 and 3.3V.
The CAT6218 offers output voltages of: 1.8, 2.4, 2.7, 2.85, 3.0, 3.2 and 3.3V.
The CAT6217 LDO regulator is priced at $0.20 each and the CAT6218 is priced at $0.23 each, both in 10,000 piece quantities.
Samples are available now.
Projected lead-time for production quantities is currently 6 to 8 weeks ARO.
