Concurrent Technologies has announced the release of the PP EMB/P34 Peripheral Slot Controller CPU board, a single slot 6U CompactPCI Board featuring the Flip-Chip Pentium III processor.

Concurrent Technologies has announced the release of its third single slot 6U CompactPCI Board featuring the Flip-Chip Pentium III processor.

The PP EMB/P34 is a Peripheral Slot Controller CPU board, compliant with PICMG 2.1 Hot-Swap specification.

The PP EMB/P34 is a high performance, enhanced functionality CPU board, supporting the new low-power Flip-Chip Pentium III processor which is based on Intel's 0.18 micron Coppermine technology and the 100MHz system bus.

The Pentium III has its own integrated Level 2 cache that operates at full CPU speed.

In addition, the Level 2 cache has been improved due to Intel's implementation of its Advanced Transfer Cache, which provides a 256-bit data path, 8-way associativity and a reduced latency - all of these features improve the Pentium III's performance and consequently the board's performance is also improved.

To meet the major design objective of product reliability and maintainability within a single-slot, no CPU fan is needed; instead a passive heat sink is utilized.

The combination of the Pentium III CPU and the Intel 82440BX chipset in conjunction with the Intel 21554 embedded PCI bridge allows the on-board Pentium III CPU to operate independently of the CompactPCI bus.

Additional features of the PP EMB/P34 include up to 256 Mbytes of fast DRAM, EIDE and Ethernet (10 or 100Mbps) and battery-backed SRAM.

PC compatible features such as keyboard, mouse, Real Time Clock, USB, floppy disk and printer ports are also provided on the board.

In addition, the functionality can be further increased by the addition of up to 2 PMC modules.

A Transition Module is also available to provide connectivity for rear panel I/O.

To ensure simple integration, the board supports many of today's industry standard operating systems including Windows NT, VxWorks, Solaris(tm), Linux and QNX.
