Concurrent Technologies has released a new addition to its growing CompactPCI family.

Concurrent Technologies has released a new addition to its growing CompactPCI family The PP 100/01x is a high-performance low-power CompactPCI system slot controller, featuring the 1.2GHz Pentium III CPU

In addition to high performance, the board offers support for PICMG 2.16 (Packet Switching Backplane), system management through its hot swap capability (PICMG 2.1) and system monitoring using IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface to the PICMG 2.9 standard).

The board can operate as a slot controller or in satellite mode (powered stand-alone mode), and can therefore be used in systems where the boards communicate across the PCI bus in the CompactPCI backplane or in systems using PICMG 2.16 Packet Switching Backplane.

This feature-rich board is therefore ideal for a variety of applications requiring high performance, lower power, high reliability and availability, and long life cycle support.

Applications are expected in a variety of market sectors including defence, medical, and telecommunications.

At the core of the design is the low power Intel Pentium III Tualatin (0.13-micron) mobile processor in a flip-chip package.

The processor, operating at 1.2GHz, supports a 133MHz bus and 512Kbyte of high-speed secondary cache.

For increased reliability, as with all Concurrent Technologies' designs, heatsinks are used in preference to fans for cooling the CPU, while maintaining a single slot solution.

The PP 100/01x provides, on board, 1Gbyte of 133MHz ECC S-DRAM that can easily be upgraded to 1.5 or 2Gbyte using standard off-the-shelf DRAM modules.

EIDE is supported, along with an optional on-board EIDE 2.5in disk drive within a single slot, or alternatively one or two CompactFlash modules can be installed.

And for faster data storage, for example, connection to a RAID system, an Ultra-2 Wide SCSI interface is also provided.

Two high performance Gigabit Ethernet channels, using the Intel 82544 devices, support 10Base-T, 100 Base-TX and 1000 Base-T.

The Ethernet channels can be individually switched between the front panel RJ45 connectors (10/100Mbit/s only) and rear panel connectors, plus seamless support is provided for interfacing to a PICMG 2.16 Packet Switching Backplane.

A graphics interface, including digital flat panel support, is implemented using the Asiliant 69030.

Other interfaces provided are keyboard and mouse interface, PC real-time clock, two RS232 channels, two USB ports, parallel printer, watchdog timer, system fan monitor and speaker interface.

The board's features can be further customised to suit the user's application by the addition of a PMC module.

An optional transition module is also available to facilitate integration within applications requiring rear I/O connection.

For ease of integration, the PP 100/01x supports many of today's leading operating systems, including VxWorks, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Linux, Solaris and LynxOS.

The PP 100/01x will be available from February 2002.
