Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64 family with the introduction of the VP 742/10x.

Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64 family with the introduction of the VP 742/10x.

This single-slot board is designed around the latest MPC7455 PowerPC G4 processor with speed options of 800MHz or 1GHz and up to 1Gbyte SDRAM.

The VP 742/10x is designed to meet the explicit needs of high-end performance processing in the VME real-time single-board market, while addressing the implicit needs of open-system developers in the embedded OEM marketplace.

Vertical markets include military, aerospace, scientific and telecommunications industries - all encompass projects that require a product family with scaled performance, long life, ease of integration and protection of the software investment.

As well as the low power benefits, the MPC7455 offers 128bit AltiVec technology, 256Kbyte L2 cache, L1 cache locking for key performance algorithms or code, plus an increased number of block address translation registers enabling efficient embedded operating systems to support high-speed mapping of additional large data blocks.

The MPC7455 processor connects to the MPC107 (Chaparral) PCI bridge, chosen for its flexibility and excellent performance characteristics, to interface to 2Mbyte of "backside" L3 cache, PCIbus, SDRAM and 16Mbyte of Flash EPROM.

The VP 742/10x supports two flexible PMC sites, one with rear I/O.

The board also features a 10baseT/100baseTX Ethernet interface, two RS232/RS422/RS485 serial ports, six 16bit general-purpose timers, real-time calendar clock and the Tundra Universe II VME interface.

Options are available for conformal coating and extended temperature versions.

The VP 742/10x will support a range of industry standard operating systems; it currently supports VxWorks, to be followed by Linux and LynxOS.

The 800MHz version will be available in mid-November and the 1GHz version is planned for early December.
