Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64x product range with the introduction of the VP 742/20x.

Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64x product range with the introduction of the VP 742/20x This single slot board is designed around the Motorola MPC7455 PowerPC G4 processor with speed options of 800MHz or 1GHz and up to 1.25Gbyte 266MHz DDR SDRAM (with ECC)

The VP 742/20x is designed to meet the explicit needs of high-end performance processing in the VME real-time single board computer market and includes onboard I/O interfaces for a PMC site, Ultra-160 SCSI, dual Gigabit Ethernet, graphics, keyboard and mouse.

Vertical markets include military, aerospace, scientific and telecommunications industries.

For harsher applications the 800MHz VP 742/201-E operates from -25 to +70C.

As well as low power benefits, the MPC7455 offers 128bit AltiVec technology plus 64Kbyte L1 cache and 256Kbyte L2 cache.

The 2Mbyte of "backside" L3 cache assist processing performance.

L1 cache locking enables specific key performance algorithms or code and an increased number of block address translation registers enables efficient embedded operating systems to support high-speed mapping of additional large data blocks.

The MPC7455 processor connects to the Marvell Discovery II (MV64360) PCI bridge, chosen for its flexibility and excellent performance characteristics.

The MV64360 also provides dual Gigabit Ethernet channels, two PCI buses, 2Mbyte NVSRAM and connects to 64Mbyte of application Flash EPROM.

The dual Gigabit Ethernet channels are independent of the PCI buses.

The VP 742/20x supports a 64bit 66MHz PMC site with front panel I/O (rear I/O via optional P0) and features a USB port, two asynchronous/synchronous RS232/RS422/RS485 serial ports, four 32bit general-purpose timers, a 32bit CPU decrementer and 64bit CPU time base, real-time calendar clock and the Tundra Universe II VME interface.

An optional P2 or P2/P0 breakout is available.

Options are available for conformal coating and extended temperature versions.

The VP 742/20x will support a range of operating systems; it currently supports VxWorks, Linux and LynxOS.

Remote booting over the Ethernet is also supported.

Prices start from approximately $3500.
