VME board evolves to latest Pentium processor
Concurrent Technologies now supports the latest Intel Pentium M processor 760, running at 2.0GHz with 533MHz front side bus, on its well-established VP 307/01x VME64 board.
Concurrent Technologies has begun support for the latest Intel Pentium M processor 760, running at 2.0GHz with 533MHz front side bus (FSB).
Concurrent Technologies achieves this as part of the upgrade path, using its well-established VME64 board, the VP 307/01x, which operates with either 400 or 533MHz FSB speeds.
The VP 307/01x, a dual PMC host board, also supports the Intel Pentium M processor 745, running at 1.8GHz with 400MHz FSB.
With one to three PMC sites, all with rear I/O, the VP 307/01x rear I/O functions include dual gigabit Ethernet, VITA 31.1 (gigabit Ethernet on VME64 backplanes), analogue/digital graphics, keyboard, mouse, RS232/422/485, USB, floppy and EIDE interfaces.
The front panel supports the PMC, analogue graphics, keyboard and mouse interfaces and includes additional front panel interfaces (separate from the rear I/O) for USB, RS232/422/485 and Fast Ethernet.
The Intel Pentium M processors 760 and 745 are on 90nm process technology and provide remarkable performance versus power dissipation ratio.
These processors have 2Mbyte L2 cache with an enhanced data prefetcher, merge CPU operations with micro-ops fusion, and have advanced instruction prediction of program branches, a dedicated stack manager in hardware, intelligent power distribution (clock gating based on program demand), deep(er) sleep alert states and enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology.
For increased reliability, heatsinks are used in preference to fans for cooling the processor.
The VP 307/01x provides, soldered on the board, 512Mbyte of DDR SDRAM that can easily be upgraded up to 1.5Gbyte via the onboard memory socket.
To cater for embedded applications there is 32Mbyte of application Flash memory.
For a wider range of applications there is an EIDE P2 interface (up to Ultra-DMA100), plus installed EIDE options for an onboard EIDE 2.5in disk drive, CompactFlash or Microdrive modules, all within a single slot.
Other onboard features available are GPIO bits, speaker interface, PC real-time clock, watchdog timer and long duration timer.
LAN boot firmware is included as well.
A transition module is supplied for applications requiring rear I/O connections.
For ease of integration, the VP 307/01x supports many of today's leading operating systems, including VxWorks, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, RTX, QNX and MS-DOS.
