Top-speed PowerPC enables real-time VME
The VP 754/20x is a single slot VME64x board designed around the Freescale 1.4GHz MPC7447A PowerPC processor and supporting up to 1.25Gbyte 266MHz DDR SDRAM.
Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64x product range with the introduction of the VP 754/20x.
This single slot board is designed around the Freescale 1.4GHz MPC7447A PowerPC processor and supports up to 1.25Gbyte 266MHz DDR SDRAM (with ECC).
The VP 754/20x is designed to meet the explicit needs of high-end performance processing in the VME real-time single board computer market.
Vertical markets include military, aerospace, scientific and telecommunications industries.
For harsher applications the 1.0GHz VP 754/20x-E operates at -25 to +70C.
As well as low power benefits, typically 21W, the 1.4GHz MPC7447A offers 128bit AltiVec technology plus 64Kbyte L1 cache and 512Kbyte L2 cache.
The MPC7447A processor connects to the Marvell Discovery II (MV64360) PCI bridge, chosen for its flexibility and excellent performance characteristics.
As well as interfacing to 1.25Gbyte DDR SDRAM, the MV64360 interfaces to 64Mbyte of application Flash EPROM and also provides, on-chip, 2Mbytes NVSRAM.
The MV64360 provides, on-chip, dual Gigabit Ethernet channels, which are independent of, and therefore do not load, the PCIbuses.
The VP 754/20x supports a 64bit 66MHz PMC site with front panel I/O (rear I/O via optional P0) and an EIDE interface connecting up to four ATA100 disk drives.
It features dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB ports, two RS232/422/485 serial ports with modem control signals and a graphics interface (and if required, two of the USB ports could be used for keyboard and mouse connections).
It also features four 32bit general-purpose timers, a 32bit CPU decrementer and 64bit CPU timebase, plus a real-time calendar clock.
An optional P2 or P2/P0 breakout is available.
Extended temperature operation is available as an option, and it uses the 1.4GHz MPC7447A processor operating at 1.0GHz.
The VP 754/20x will support a range of operating systems - VxWorks, Linux and LynxOS.
Remote booting over the Ethernet is also supported.
