SBC family offers VME upgrade path

A Concurrent Technologies product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jun 12, 2006

A new range of high-performance low-power VME single-board computers ranges from low power 1.0GHz Intel Celeron M processors up to high performance 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M processors.

Concurrent Technologies has a new range of high-performance low-power VME single-board computers - the VP33x/02x family.

With a choice of processors, from the low power 1.0GHz Intel Celeron M ULV 373 processor up to the high performance 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M processor 745, and a wide variety of I/O features, these RoHS compliant boards are suitable for a broad range of commercial applications; for harsher applications, extended temperature options enable operation over -40 to +85C or over -25 to +70C.

The flexibility and options available within this product family will offer the system integrator the opportunity to use the same board for many different projects, therefore ensuring both an excellent return on software development time as well as reducing time to market for new projects.

Typical applications for these RoHS compliant products are expected to be within the defence, security, telemetry, industrial control, scientific and aerospace markets.

The VP 337/02x board supports the 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M processor 745 (in a socket) or the 1.4GHz Intel Pentium M processor 738 (soldered) - both with 2Mbyte L2 cache.

The VP 335/02x board supports the 1.6GHz Intel Pentium M processor (in a socket) with 1Mbyte L2 cache.

The low power, entry-level performance version, the VP 335/02x, supports the 1.0GHz Intel Celeron M processor ULV 373 (soldered) with 512Kbyte L2 cache.

The VP 335/02x is an economically viable upgrade to Concurrent Technologies' earlier Intel Pentium III based VP 110/01x product family, as it is both front and rear I/O compatible with all variants of the VP 110/01x family.

The VP 335/02x offers an easy upgrade path to newer technology thereby ensuring ongoing project continuity with the minimum of re-engineering.

All variants of the product family provide an EIDE interface (up to UDMA100) that is accessible via the P2 connector; in addition, onboard EIDE 2.5in disk drive, CompactFlash or Hitachi GST Microdrive modules may be installed on the board while maintaining a single slot solution.

To cater for embedded applications, there is also 64Mbyte of onboard application Flash memory.

A wealth of I/O is available on the boards: the front panel supports dual PMC I/O, analogue graphics (2048 x 1536 at 75Hz), keyboard and mouse interfaces, and an RS232 interface.

The rear connector supports 64bit I/O for each PMC site, an EIDE interface, a USB 2.0 interface, and a floppy disk interface.

The I/O can be further extended by the addition of PMC modules using either of the two onboard 64bit 66MHz PMC sites.

Each PMC site supports 3.3 or 5V PCI signalling.

Two further PMC sites can be added using a second slot PMC carrier board.

As well as the industry standard PC interfaces, other features available on the boards include a watchdog timer, long duration timer, and LAN boot firmware.

For ease of integration, the VP 33x/02x family of boards support many of today's leading operating systems, including VxWorks, Linux, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP Embedded, Windows XP, RTX, QNX, Solaris and LynxOS.
