C Data Solutions has a new low cost carrier board for its CompactFlash Computer.

C Data Solutions has a new low cost carrier board for its CompactFlash Computer The CompactFlash Computer is a Freescale ColdFire MCF5272 processor, 32Mbyte SDRAM, 8Mbyte Flash all packaged in a Type II CompactFlash card, measuring 42 x 37 x 5mm and is preloaded with uClinux

The CompactFlash Computer is available for $200 in small volumes or $100 in OEM quantities.

The low cost development kit costs $400.

The carrier board has four CompactFlash connectors, two on top and two on the bottom.

One is specifically used for the CompactFlash Computer, allowing the other three connectors for third-party CF+ I/O cards.

The carrier board also has the bus expansion unit integrated onto it, which enables the CompactFlash Computer to directly address the CF+ I/O cards.

The carrier board can be powered from 5-10V via a switching regulator or a 3.3V supply.

The three-slot carrier board provides the basis for a lower cost development system and augments the existing eight-slot motherboard development system.

The carrier board is an ideal vehicle for developing portable, wearable and desktop units.

Applications range from NAS, bridges, routers, wireless access points, data acquisition systems etc.

The eight-slot mother board system targets embedded computing in areas where PC104 is too big and the application volume does not warrant custom hardware design.

The carrier board development kit contains: the CompactFlash Computer; a three-slot carrier board; power supply; RS232/BDM header; an RS232 cable; and source software and development tools.

The eight-slot motherboard is now available for $600.

This is similar to the carrier board but contains an eight-slot motherboard and a bus expansion unit.

C Data Solutions has published schematics for their hardware to aid developers wishing to adopt this technology.

The company will undertake/aid custom design of mother/carrier boards for specific application and CompactFlash I/O cards.
