Research sheds new light on LEPs
The nature of one of the fundamental processes for light generation in light emitting polymer (LEP), materials has now been experimentally demonstrated by scientists from Cambridge and Oman.
Opsys' new OLED displays will be shown in demonstration handsets on the Densitron stand (Hall 24, Stand C15/1).
They are 31.37mm across the diagonal and are designed for use in mobile phones.
The displays are just 1.8mm thick, have 128 x 64pixel, a luminance of 40cd/m2 and a contrast ratio better than 100:1.
OLEDs have many advantages over LCD displays that are currently used in many mobile devices - they do not require a separate backlight, have a faster 'switching speed' and wider viewing angles.
Opsys is currently sampling these prototypes to a number of potential customers.
Full-colour displays are also in development at its Fremont prototyping facility.
