Light emitting polymers enable next-generation TV
A new 20.8in television display recently demonstrated by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology in Japan features CDT's light emitting polymer technology.
A new 20.8in, full-colour, P-OLED television display demonstrated by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology (TMD), at the 3rd International FPD Show in Japan, features CDT's light emitting polymer technology.
The super-thin display is based on TMD's LTPS technology coupled with CDT's light emitting polymer technology.
The three (RGB) colour-emitting layers use polymer organic electroluminescent materials, or P-OLEDs, and an ink-jet type printing process is used for deposition of each colour.
"This exhibition of TMD's new P-OLED based display capabilities marks a significant milestone in the advancement toward commercial adoption of OLEDs as the next-generation display technology and demonstrates one of the key differentiating advantages of P-OLED technology which has long been considered to be the more scalable and practical OLED-based solution for larger substrate sizes", said Dr David Fyfe, CEO of CDT.
"With Sony having already announced plans to produce small OLED televisions before year-end, it is clear that OLED display technology - with lower power consumption, even thinner form factor than LCD or plasma technologies, and an enhanced viewing experience - offers a highly attractive and viable solution for the next generation of displays".
