High-reliability power-supply manufacturer Celab reports record shipments of GBP 4.2 million for the year 2000, an increase of 35% on 1999.
"Increased investment in manufacturing flexibility was key to our success in both the telecomms and military markets", claims Barry Wood, Celab's Managing Director.
In addition to the record shipments, there were a number of significant volume orders for projects moving out of prototype or trials phases, boosting the order book to an all-time high.
"We are seeing the double benefit of increased competitiveness from our lean manufacturing initiatives, and large scheduled orders for many of our long-term engineering projects such as with Eurofighter/Typhoon.
Our engineering and development contracts are now running at five times the level of 1997, making us confident of exceeding GBP 5 million shipments this year", added Wood.
Celab has focused on streamlining its production facilities in 2000, and enhancing flexibility, through the installation of additional automation, and specific training initiatives such as a DTI funded scheme to develop cell-based lean manufacturing.
