Following its success in 2001, high-reliability power-supply specialist Celab has had an exceptional Q3, taking the total order book to a new record of GBP 9.5 million, up 23% on the Q4 2001 closing figure.
Although order levels are subdued in CATV markets, Celab is seeing volume orders both for military power supplies, and its rapidly growing specialist EMS business.
"Our success in 2001 gave us the resources to invest in increased productivity, which in turn has enabled us to respond well to the continued price pressure in the market", said Barry Wood, MD.
As well as follow-on orders for Typhoon avionics equipment originally developed by Celab, the success of the company's products has enabled it to win demonstrator orders for additional Typhoon subsystems.
Celab's active prototype and engineering teams have also successfully developed power supplies for several other prototype military projects that are now moving to volume production, while significant EMS orders have been received, particularly for legacy equipment, where obsolescence management has been a key offering.
Over the two years 2001/2002, Celab's investment programme for lean manufacturing, ATE and other productivity initiatives will total more than GBP 0.5 million, enabling it to respond with confidence to an order book equivalent to over twice the total sales in 2001.
With many of the orders being for longer term or scheduled delivery, Celab is already planning further investment in 2003.
